MEET OUR DEACONS

STAN SHEPHEARD

Stan is an accountant for Targa Resources in Houston.  He serves as  Chairman of our Deacon Board and  is part of our finance team serving as our treasurer. He also serves as one of our trustees, who reviews our financial reports—making presentations at our annual meetings.  His wife, Stephanie, works in our church offices and also volunteers in various ministries.  Stan and Stephanie have 3 grown children, Morgan, Mackenzie and Cameron. 

JOSE MENDEZ

Jose is a retired teacher and assistant principal from the Spring  Independent School District.  He serves on our facilities team planning, organizing and doing much of the maintenance at the church.  He also serves on the worship team.  His wife, Darlene, is a retired nurse from St. Lukes Hospital in The Woodlands. Jose and Darlene have a son, Daniel, and a daughter, Sofia, who is deceased.  

WALTER SOUTHERLAND

Walter is a retired chemical engineer from the oil industry and a computer hardware technician professionally trained in network systems.  Walter serves on the facilities team focused on our internet, communications and video technology working in the technical areas of our worship services and network systems. Walter is a widower. He was married to his wife, Nenita , until her death in 2023. They have two grown sons, Matthew and Mark. Walter is remarried to Edith Southerland and they live here in The Woodlands. 

CHRIS MCMARTIN

Chris is a retired Senior Aerospace Science Instructor for the Air Force JROTC unit at The Woodlands High School where he taught history, leadership and survival classes.  He is also retired from the U S Airforce, has his pilots license and is scuba certified. Chris serves on our worship team and in our AWANA program.  He is married to Laurie and they have one grown daughter, Sarah. 

STEVE BUNCH

Steve served in the United States Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve from 1982 to  2008. He has a BS in Electronics in Engineering Technology from Oklahoma State University and worked in telecommunications until retiring from Cisco in 2026. Steve and his wife, Marie, have been married since 1990 and they have 3 grown children. Marie  is a nurse practitioner in Huntsville. Steve oversees our Emergency Response Team here at Community. Both he and Marie love serving the Lord and have called CBC home for 23 years.  

 JASON COX

.Jason Cox is a United States Navy Veteran and currently owns his own consulting firm (since 2022). He serves on our Audio/Visual team each Sunday, as well as our IT team. He and his wife, Sharon, have been married for 38 years and have 4 children: Christopher, Danielle, Mikayla, and Zachary, ranging from 19 years old to 35 years old. They have lived in The Woodlands for 25 years and have been attending Community Baptist Church since 2021.
